I love Wired!

I suppose I'll kick things off with a little bit of news I discovered from Wired.com. Scientists researching into causes of cancer, etc. have found a protein called telomerase. There are little segments of your DNA called telomeres, which control how many times a cell can divide. Telomerase intereferes with these telomeres and by doing so, causes them to divide out of control. We know this out of control division of cells as "Cancer." However, having discovered this protein, scientists are working on methods that can potentially prevent and cure cancer. Being able to identify telomerase allows scientists to produce proteins which will destroy it. As well as this, scientists hope that, in time, a vaccination will be produced which will make the immune system attack telomerase-producin cells, effectively vaccinatiing against cancer. Pretty neat, huh?

However, in other, unrelated news, my birthday was prety fun. I'm only really blogging about it because a certain someone told me to, but here it is. It was quite fun having a birthday party, even though it took half an hour to open Ness' preset. But the wrapping paper was very tough. It was! Singstar was fun, as was playing pool and table tennis. Thankyou all for your wonderful pressies, I finished one ofthose blocks of chocolate in one night, much to Mum's dismayed surprise. "You'll make yourself sick!" she says. Yeah. Right.

Catch you on the flip-side!

  1. I heard about that science thingy. The first Australian women is going to get a Nobel Prize for discovering it. Awesome.
Your party was heaps fun. I stuffed myself, almost died twice by being hit with a pingpong ball aimed by Caity, learnt to play pool and got the highest level in Singstar i've ever gotten. And your dog is so CUTE!
